Community Highlights: A Season of Learning, Service, Creativity, and Competition at the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club

This season has been packed with energy, growth, and unforgettable moments for our Club members. From intergenerational service projects to career exploration, artistic achievement, and statewide esports competition, our young people continue to shine in every space they enter. Here’s a look at what’s been happening across our Clubs.

Building Bridges Through Service: Wheelchair, Walker & Cane Wash at Morning Pointe

Our Club members spent a meaningful day at Morning Pointe of Owensboro, where kindness and teamwork took center stage during the 2nd Annual Wheelchair, Walker & Cane Wash. Residents and our teens worked side‑by‑side, sharing stories, laughter, and plenty of elbow grease as mobility equipment was cleaned and polished with care.

The partnership didn’t stop there — together, the groups also planted a community garden, creating a space that will continue to grow connection between generations. It was a beautiful reminder of how service can bring people together and strengthen our community.

Celebrating the First Workforce Academy Graduates

A major milestone was reached as the first cohort of students completed the Workforce Academy, a partnership between OCTC Workforce Solutions and the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club. Over eight weeks, 24 middle school students explored high‑demand career pathways including healthcare, CDL, veterinary technology, carpentry, and manufacturing.

During the closing ceremony, families and partners gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements. As our COO Mr. Ryan Bibb shared, “programs like this give teens the tools and confidence to envision their futures. The initiative was made possible through Kentucky’s Kids Workforce Grant, and we’re proud of every student who took this important step toward discovering their career path.”

Hands-On Career Exploration: Workforce Academy Week 2

Earlier in the program, students dove into hands‑on learning during Week 2 of the Workforce Academy.

  • Track A explored Healthcare & Human Services, gaining insight into real‑world medical careers.
  • Track B learned the Cope & Drag technique from industry experts at Waupaca Foundry, experiencing the manufacturing process up close.

These sessions helped teens connect classroom learning with real opportunities, sparking curiosity and building confidence as they explored in‑demand industries.

Creativity on Display: Don Hansen Art Show at Independence Bank

Our young artists had their moment to shine during the Don Hansen Art Show, proudly displayed at Independence Bank. Supported by the Donald Hansen Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, the show highlighted the creativity and imagination of our Club members.

A special thank‑you goes to Mrs. Story and Mrs. Reid, who treated members to a VIP experience complete with a bank tour, teamwork lessons, and goodie bags. The celebration of their hard work left everyone inspired — and already excited for next year’s creations.

Leveling Up: Hosting the BGC‑KY Esports Tournament

Competition was fierce and fun as our Club hosted the latest BGC‑KY Esports Tournament, welcoming around 50 teens from Boys & Girls Clubs across Kentucky. Players battled it out in five games — Madden, NBA 2K, Fortnite, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart — showing skill, sportsmanship, and plenty of team spirit.

A huge congratulations goes to Kendrick, who brought home the coveted Mario Kart Belt. We’re proud of every teen who competed and represented their Club with pride.

A Season to Remember

From service to seniors, to exploring future careers, to celebrating creativity and competing in statewide tournaments, our youth continue to prove that great futures start here. Their enthusiasm, resilience, and willingness to try new things make every season brighter.
