Building Great Futures Together: March Highlights from the Mike Horn Unit

As we step into a new quarter at the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club – Mike Horn Unit, we’re celebrating a season filled with creativity, learning, advocacy, and community connection. March has brought powerful moments that reflect exactly why our mission matters — and why Great Futures truly start here.

Inside the Clubhouse: A Season of Growth and Hands‑On Experiences

Our Club has been buzzing with activity, and our members continue to shine through every program and opportunity.

Winter Basketball League: A Season to Remember

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of German American Bank, our Winter Basketball League welcomed more than 140 young athletes across two age divisions. From teamwork to sportsmanship, our players gave it their all. A huge congratulations to the 9–11 division champions: the Hilltoppers. We’re grateful to every coach, volunteer, family member, and player who made this season unforgettable.

Don Hansen Art Show: Creativity on Display

Our young artists poured their hearts into exploring new techniques and mediums this year — and their hard work paid off. With support from Mr. Donald Hansen and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, their artwork was proudly showcased at Independence Bank. A special thank‑you to Susanne Story for giving our artists a VIP behind‑the‑scenes tour. Their excitement for future projects is already growing.

Cooking Classes: Family Nights Done Right

With help from Cargill and Joy’s Cooking Classes, our families rolled up their sleeves and created delicious, made‑from‑scratch meals together. These evenings were filled with laughter, learning, and confidence‑building moments in the kitchen — the kind of memories that make Family Nights so meaningful.

Workforce Academy: Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders

This month marked the launch of our first‑ever Workforce Academy, created in partnership with Owensboro Community & Technical College. Over eight weeks, teens are gaining real‑world skills and exploring career pathways.

  • Track B learned the “Cope & Drag” technique at Waupaca Foundry
  • Track A dove into Healthcare & Human Services Soon, both groups will switch and experience it all. This program is already shaping confident, career‑ready young adults.

Advocating for Kentucky’s Youth in Frankfort

A dedicated group of board members, lobbyists, and Club leaders traveled to the State Capitol to advocate for Boys & Girls Clubs across Kentucky. Their mission: ensure legislators understand the life‑changing impact of our programs and the importance of continued support. Their voices amplified a powerful message: America Needs Club Kids. Club Kids Need You.
